Learner Driver FAQ’s
Below are some of the questions prospective and new pupils often ask. Please feel free to call or email should you have any queries that you would like to discuss directly.
Q: How many lessons will I need ?
A: There are many factors that determine how many lessons you will end up needing. Age, gender, attitude, personality and the ability to practise when not in lessons all contribute. In general terms, research from The Driving Standards Agency suggests that about 40 hours of professional training plus additional practice will give you the best chance of passing your driving test. However, this is only a guide and tuition is structured to meet the needs and ability of the individual.
Q. How many lessons should I have a week?
A. Yes. some students have other commitments or like the regularity of a weekly lesson, and some students prefer a more immersive experience with two or more lessons a week. The choice is yours.
Q. Are you a qualified instructor?
Yes. In order to conduct driving lessons on a professional basis, all instructors must be registered  and have qualified with the DVSA.
Q: How do I book the practical and theory tests ?
A: Information on how to do this is available at  www.direct.gov.uk.
Q: Can I get picked up and dropped off at different addresses ?
A: Yes, this is fine. Simply let me know beforehand, so I can sort out my diary. For example, some students get picked up from school/work, and then dropped off at home.
Q. Will other pupils be in the car with me?
A. No, all our lessons are conducted on a one to one basis and you will not be sharing your lessons with other pupils.
Q. How will I know I'm ready to take my test?
A. We will keep track of your progress and discuss this with you as appropriate. We will let you know when we feel you are ready to start thinking about booking a test.
Q: Can I pay my lessons on the day?
A: No. All lessons need to be prepaid.
Q: Can I use my own car for my Driving Test ?
A: You can either use the instruction car you learnt in, or you can choose to use your own car, it just needs to be fitted with an examiner's mirror, see more information here  https://www.gov.uk/driving-test/using-your-own-car
Q: Can I learn to drive on an International Licence ?
A: There are circumstances where you can drive for one year before having to take the UK driving test. More details can be obtained from the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) website found at  www.dvla.gov.uk
